A German police officer has been detained in a coordinated raid targeting Mafia and other organized crime networks in Germany and Italy, prosecutors said on Tuesday.
The public prosecutor’s office in the western German town of Waiblingen, near Stuttgart, accused the 46-year-old officer of supporting the ‘Ndrangheta Mafia group.
The ‘Ndrangheta, based in the southern Italian region of Calabria, is widely seen as the most powerful Mafia group currently active.
The officer’s arrest came amid a massive raid by German and Italian police officers against organized crime groups on Tuesday, with at least 29 people detained.
